Voice quality, production and perception of phonation types, multi-dimensional phonetic space of acoustic measures
Phonetics Laboratory
I am a first-year PhD student in the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics at the University of Cambridge. My doctoral work is supported by the CSC Cambridge Scholarship, awarded jointly by the China Scholarship Council and the Cambridge Trust. I am co-supervised by Professor Brechtje Post and Professor Francis Nolan.
My research explores the production and perception of phonation types in Jin Chinese, with a focus on the Huoji dialect. I aim to characterise a multi-dimensional phonetic space for linguistic voice quality by modelling how F0, duration, and voice quality measures such as HNR, H1-H2, and CPP contribute to tonal identity. I enjoy building careful, data-driven workflows that connect acoustic measures to meaningful linguistic patterns.
