Phonetics Laboratory

The Phonetics Laboratory holds two regular activities: Phonetics and Phonology Seminar and Tone and Intonation Reading Group.

Phonetics and Phonology Seminar

The P&P Seminar is held weekly at the Phonetics Laboratory. Speakers present their own work followed by discussions and questions. This is a great opportunity to get some constructive feedback on a presentation before taking it to a conference, and equally to keep up to speed with exciting new research in the fields of phonetics and phonology. We also stream the seminar via Zoom. Please contact the organiser, Stephanie Cooper, if you want to join.

The current programme (Lent 2024) is as follows:

Tone and Intonation Reading Group

The Tone and Intonation Reading Group is organised by PhD students, aiming to provide an informal environment for people sharing similar research interests to exchange ideas and thoughts. We meet twice a term to discuss a journal article or book chapter on a topic relevant to tone and intonation.

Students and staff who are interested can join the mailing list here, or alternatively email Chenming to be added to the mailing list.

Forensic Phonetics Reading Group

The Forensic Phonetics Reading Group meets twice a term. It is particularly aimed towards those working in forensic phonetics research, but any interested staff and students are welcome. We typically discuss a journal article or book article on a topic relevant to forensic phonetics.

Staff and students interested in joining the mailing list for this group should email Dr Kirsty McDougall
